Cherished Number Plates
Cherished number plates are constantly growing
in popularity, and have been popular ever since the British number
plate system was introduced in 1903. Earl Russell of
London queued overnight at his local registration office to secure
the plate A 1, demonstrating the appeal of cherished number
plates right from the start.
Some popular styles of cherished number plates
include those which spell names. For example, if your name is
Barry, the plate B4 RRY would be perfect for you. Similarly, someone
with the surname Stout would be perfectly matched with S7 OUT.
There are literally millions of combinations available, so you're
bound to find the perfect plate for you.
In the late 1970's, the DVLA began to withhold cherishable numbers,
which saw the real birth of the cherished number plate
system. Cherishable numbers are generally not issued to new cars
by the DVLA, but are available through our recommended supplier.

Perhaps your ideal number plate refers to your
hobby or passion. 400m Gold Medallist runner Iwan Thomas, for
example, has the plate R400 RUN on his car, and mad Derby County
fan Paul Sisson, from Oakwood in Derby, has found the perfect
number plate for him - D3 RBY. Paul said, "I
chose D3 RBY because Derby is the place of my birth, I'm proud
of the city and I'm mad about Derby County Football Club. My number
plat looks fantastic on my new Jag!"
