The sight and sound of a Scorpion
Tony and Gill Burgess from Worthing, West Sussex purchased a
matching pair of initial plates. Gill said: "In May 1999,
my husband and I ordered the car of his dreams, a Grinnall Scorpion
- a three-wheeled sports car powered by a 4 cylinder, 1100cc BMW
motorbike engine. These are made individually by a small firm
in Bewdley, Worcestershire. As a birthday present I wanted to
give him a personalised number plate based on his name, Anthony
Michael Burgess. The first one that we chose was on a donor car
that unfortunately then failed its MOT. As the low numbered 'C''s
were just being released and C1 AMB was rather expensive, we thought
that C3 would be just right for the three-wheeled car.
Two months later, I exchanged my old Polo for a nearly new one.
I too had always wanted a personalised number plate. As my name
is Gillian Margaret Burgess, I was really pleased to find that
C3 GMB was still available, to match C3 AMB.
In October 1999 we drove up to Worcestershire in my car to collect
the Scorpion from the factory. The journey home was quite an experience
as the sight and sound of a Scorpion really turns heads.
Sadly and unexpectedly my husband passed away in January 2000.
Nevertheless we had such happy motoring times together, especially
in the Scorpion and we were so proud of our matching number plates."
